Why balance your crankshaft assembly?

Dynamic balancing is one of the most crucial and beneficial jobs to perform on your engine when rebuilding. From the smallest low revving engine to an all out race engine spinning over 10,000rpms.

Balancing all moving components ensures all cylinders are having to do the same amount of work as each other, whilst a balanced rotating assembly will make the bearings last longer. A smoother balanced rotating mass will make sure it spins with fare less side loading and vibrations meaning it wont be trying to pound the bearings, and less vibrations make for a quieter smoother engine, resulting in improved MPG as well as performance.

How we dynamically balance your crankshaft assembly.

Firstly we balance your crankshaft with any gears and woodruff keys added. These make a huge difference to overall balance, and if left off during the process the crankshaft will be more out of balance than before.

We will then add each component and balance them singly starting with the flywheel, then the clutch pressure plate, then the front pulley, then give a final spin to make sure the balanced figures are where we expect them (very low).

Balancing this way ensures if you ever require a replacement component, the new item can be balanced individually and added to your assembly keeping the whole rotating mass in tolerance, our tolerance we work to is below 2gm per 25mm.

We can get your assembly as close to 0 as possible, just ask.

Conrod balancing

We balance conrods end to end on our fixture, and aim to get conrods within a gram or two, race motors and good quality rods can usually be balanced to within a gram of each other.
